Syrian official source denies Egyptian FM statement
Syria-Egypt, Politics, 12/2/2004
A Syrian official source on Tuesday denied what had been said by Egyptian Presidential spokesman Majed Abdulfatah that Syria is not committed to "Rabin's deposit" or to what had been agreed on in the peace negotiations.
The source also stressed Syria's firm stance vis-a-vis the resumption of the peace negotiations and building on what had been achieved, including the so-called "deposit", asserting Syria's commitment to the known principles of peace.
President al-Assad, during his talks with President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt in Sharm al-Sheikh, expressed the unchanged Syrian stance, thereby confirming that Syria is serious in its approach to achieve a just and comprehensive peace, based on the relevant international resolutions which end occupation because occupation contradicts peace.
In a statement later to the Arabia' satellite channel, Abdulfattah withdrew his previous statements denying what had been reported in the media regarding President al-Assad and Mubarak's talks in Sharm al-Sheikh Tuesday indicating that the talks didn't deal with the "deposit", saying that his statements had been mistakenly understood by the press.
