Abu Ghait highlights Syria's call for peace
Egypt-Syria, Politics, 11/29/2004
Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmad Abu al-Ghait stressed that Syria's recent announcement of readiness to resume the negotiations with Israel represented Damascus clear-cut stance based on the Land-for-Peace principle and the full implementation of the UN resolutions, particularly the UN Security Council Resolution No. 242.
In a statement following his meeting on Sunday with the UN special Coordinator for the Middle East peace process Terji Roed Larsen, Abu Ghait said that the Syrian stance was positive and had the willingness to open up.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister pointed out that Larsen briefed him on his meeting with President Bashar al-Assad and Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara and asserted Syria's desire to resume peace negotiations.
