Chirac in Libya: fresh start with Libya who has important role in Africa, the region

President Jacques Chirac, of France has "praised the strategic vision" of the leader of the Libyan Revolution, Muammar al-Qathafi, "on the new future of Africa, being shaped within the framework of the great African Union," JANA reported yesterday.

"We agree at the African level on the main goals, security, stability, and development of the continent" President Chirac said at a press conference in Tripoli.

He valued the pioneering role undertaken by the Leader to establish peace, and ensure security in the African continent, underscoring the constructive efforts of the Leader in solving Darfur problems and Cote d'Ivoir.

President Chirac underlined the strategic importance of Great Jamahiriya, in Africa, Arab Maghreb, and the Jamahiriya, and its fundamental role in realizing stability in these regions. He referred in particular to the Leader's presidency of the Arab Maghreb which could deepen its cooperation with the EU."

JANA reported that President Chirac who was speaking at a press conference, yesterday in Tripoli "stressed that there are a common Libyan and French will to make a fresh start in the bilateral cooperation in various fields, in line with Libyan priorities in strategic sectors such as energy and aviation industries. "

JANA reported that it learned that "the most prominent outcome of the summit meeting between the Leader of the Revolution and President Chirac is the agreement on establishing a strategic partnership, and continuous political consultations between the two countries on cooperation issues."
