Zapatero praises Syrian Community efforts and role in Spain

Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero expressed gratitude for Syrian community's active role in the Spanish society and its continual work to deepen and boost Syrian-Spanish relations of friendship.

Responding to the Syrian community's supporting letter to Zapatero on the occasion of his speech in the UN General Assembly, Zapatero said: "Syrian-Spanish relations have always formed an axis for civilizations concurrence in Mediterranean basin and for the mutual respect among peoples and cultures."

Zapatero, during his speech in the UN General Assembly, had stressed the importance of civilizations' dialogue and respecting people's cultures.

He raised issue of forming an alliance between the Western cultures and the Arab and Islamic worlds. He pointed out that Spanish government will do its best to achieve peace in the world.
