Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 11/22/2004
Several NGOs for the defence of the Sahara and Sahrawi Human rights voiced concern over the allegations aiming to harm the moroccanity of the Sahara and over the fate of missing Sahrawis in the Polisario jails in Tindouf, Southern Algeria.
"Arai" association for the defence of the moroccanity of the Sahara and the Sahrawis sequestrated in Tindouf denounced the attempts to harm the territorial integrity of the kingdom.
The association said, in a communiquŽ sent to the Moroccan News Agency MAP, the allegations disseminated by some individuals try to spread propaganda of political theses meant to help the separatists supported by Algeria and hostile to unification of Morocco and its Southern provinces. The Dakhla-based association said that the so-called human rights organisation created by these individuals are manipulated by the Polisario separatists.
The Polisario has been opposing Moroccan territorial integrity since 1975 when the Southern provinces were retrieved by Morocco from Spanish colonialism. For their part, two Sahrawi human rights associations addressed letters to Spanish Prime minister and other officials asking them to enquire with head of the Polisario on the fate of hundreds of Sahrawis missing after they were detained in Tindouf prisons.
"Most of these Sahrawis, missing between 1976 to 1990, were Spanish citizens when they disappeared and were never brought to justice" said the two organisations adding the families of the missing ask them daily for information.
ADESETI association said it published a list of 253 missing people in the Polisario prisons, while the ASADEDH protested the coming visit of the Polisario chief to Madrid on November 26.
