NGO calls for lifting the siege on Moroccans sequestrated in Polisario camps
Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 11/18/2004
A Moroccan Ngo on Tuesday called on the International Community, notably the UN Secretary General, to act to lift the siege on the Moroccans sequestrated in the Polisario camps close to Tindouf, Southwest Algeria, and to help free the POWs detained in these camps.
A communique of "Al Amal Association for Legality and Territorial Integrity," sent to the Moroccan News Agency MAP, also asked for the opening of an investigation on the collective graves found in the south of the Algerian town of Tindouf, near the "Arrachid" Polisario prison.
The Ngo urged the International community to pressure the Algeria-backed Polisario movement, opposing Morocco and claiming the separation of its Southern provinces, to unveil the fate of the missing Moroccan Sahrawis, including Moussa Ould Mohamed, Bouna Ould Alem, Baba Ould Cheikh and journalist Abdelaziz Ould Haidallah.
The association also called to put and end to the misappropriation by Polisario leaders of the aid given to the Sahrawis by humanitarian organisations and condemned the manoeuvres of the separatists to harm Moroccan territorial integrity.
The Polisario has been fighting Morocco since 1975 over the Moroccan Sahara to the end of setting up the so-called Sahrawi republic SADR. Algeria created at the time this separatist movement and has been helping it logistically and diplomatically since then.
