Candidates for the Palestinian presidential elections
Palestine, Politics, 11/16/2004

Concerning candidates expected to take part in the Palestinian elections, sources close to the Palestinian billionaire Munib al-Masri said he is studying the possibility of nominating himself for the presidency of the Palestinian Authority in succession of Arafat.

The sources explained that a group of Palestinian figures suggested to al-Masri, who is also a member in the Palestinian Central Council to nominate himself.

Among the names that emerged to launch the presidential elections are the secretary of the higher movement committee in the West Bank, Marwan Barghouthi, who is detained in the Israeli jails and sentenced to life imprisonment.

There are also likely other candidates including Abdul Sattar Qassem who announced since a long time his intention to nominate himself in any coming elections in succession of the late Yasser Arafat.
