Continued American bombardment of Musil

The American forces in Musil bombarded positions of the gunmen in this city which is situated to the north of Iraq. One American military spokeswoman said that the operation covered air raids and land attacks targeted aggregation for the gunmen in certain areas of the city.

Earlier, gunmen controlled 6 police centers in Musil city and confiscated the weapons and burnt much of it and several cars for the police. Other gunmen attacked a group of members of the Iraqi national guards while blocking a bridge in the downtown of the city and killed five of them and destroyed three vehicles, despite the curfew imposed there since Wednesday.

In another development, the commander of police in Babel governorate Maj. Qeis Hamzeh imposed curfew in al-Hella city as from Thursday 6 p.m until today morning following confrontations and booby trapped car explosions during which 16 persons were injured during the past 24 hours.

In Baghdad, 18 persons were killed and other scores were injured in a booby trapped car explosion in al-Sadoun street in the downtown of the city. The explosion also resulted in burning 10 cars and destroying several trade shops.

News reports also said that a large American soldiers force and member of the Iraqi national guards cordoned al-Amereyah quarters to the west of Baghdad. The soldiers prevented the citizens from getting out of their houses in order to inspect the quarters.

The news reports quoted Muslim Scholars Commission in Iraq that joint American and Iraqi forces today at dawn broke into the house of the secretary general of the Muslim Scholars Commission Harith al-Dari to the west of Baghdad and the house of Sheikh Abdul Salam al-Kubeisi, the commission's public relations official in al-Amereyah quarters. These forces confiscated much of the two houses property but avoided the two Sheikhs.

However, news reports quoted the secretary general of the Higher Commission For Call and Fatwa, Imam of Ibn Teimeh mosque in Baghdad, sheikh Mahdi al-Sumeidai, that he blames the Shiite clergy Ali al-Seistani over his silence on what is taking place in Falluja.

News reports said the American forces detained al-Sumeida his deputy and members of the commission's shoura council and other 41 persons after breaking into the mosque on Thursday with the help of the Iraqi national guards.

In Karkouk a huge explosion took place in one of the oil wells to the west of this city which is situated to the north of Iraq.

Meanwhile, the governor of the city Abdul Rahman Mustafa Muhammad survived an assassination attempt by a booby trapped car, while four members of his guards were injured together with 10 passerby, according to medical and police sources.
