Two messages from Allawi to Mubarak and Abdullah
Iraq-Regional, Politics, 11/11/2004
The Saudi official news agency said that the Iraqi foreign minister Hoshiar Zeibari yesterday made an undeclared visit to Saudi Arabia and was received there by the Saudi crown prince Abdullah and handed him over a message from the Iraqi prime minister Eyad Allawi. No reference was made to the content of the message.
Zeibari met with Crown Prince Abdullah in Mecca where the Saudi officials traditionally spend the last ten days of the holy month of Ramadan. The Egyptian Middle East News Agency announced earlier that President Hosni Mubarak received from Zeibari a message from Allawi dealt with the Iraqi developments.
The agency quoted the Egyptian foreign minister Ahmad Abu al-Gheit as saying that Zeibari briefed Mubarak on the developments of " the situation in Iraq." He added that the humanitarian condition in Iraq "wins a great deal of interest by the government and people of Egypt. Egypt feels annoyed over the operations of killing and any human losses among the Iraqi civilians." Zeibari, for his part, stressed in a press conference with Abu al-Gheit that elections in Iraq will be taking place in January 2005, as scheduled.
On the attack on Falluja, following his meeting with Mubarak, Zeibari said that the decision was not easy at all. But was necessary because any government which honors itself does not accept "challenge for its will and authorities." He added the main objective of this operation is to restore back the sovereignty of the Iraqi state to certain rebellious areas and prepare the atmospheres for carrying out general elections in the country.
Abu al-Gheit who took part in the meeting between Mubarak and Zeibari said he had received a telephone call from the US secretary of state Colin Powell during which talks, in particular, dealt with this issue and the need to be cautious over the conditions of civilians and allowing them the chance to get out of the city and ensuring necessary care of food, waters and medicines because there are civilians who can not leave the city.
