Discussions on the Israeli practices at the UN headquarters
Syria-UN, Politics, 11/10/2004

Syria's Permanent Representative to the UN Faisal Meqdad stressed that "the Middle East is still witnessing a series of wars due to the Israeli policy that is based on occupation and settlement."

In the meeting of the Fourth Political Committee concerned with ending colonialism at the UN General Assembly which started Monday, Meqdad underlined that Israel proves continuously its anti-peace inclination through its expansion in establishing settlements on the occupied Palestinian land and in Golan.

He added that Israel thought that by occupying the Golan it could impose a fait accompli on the Golan and the region, but it was mistaken because Syria has the right and full sovereignty on the Golan.

The committee is to discuss the report of the private committee concerned with the investigation of the Israeli practices that affect the human rights of the Palestinian people and Syrian citizen on Golan.

The participants in the meeting talked about the "Israeli brutal practices against the Palestinian people and the deteriorated situation that the Palestinians live under the occupation and Israel's building of the separation wall, assassination against the Palestinian leaders and demolishing of homes."

They also pointed out to the suffering of the Syrian citizens in the occupied Golan, expressing condemnation to the Israeli violation of Human rights there.
