Sudan, Politics, 11/9/2004
The Mufti of Nigeria, Sheikh Ibrahim Saleh al-Sharif, disclosed that the Muslim scholars in Nigeria proposed an initiative to contain the "crisis in Darfur" to prevent attempts to internationalize it and deter attempts made for "flagrant international intervention in the Sudanese affairs under the pretext of humanitarian intervention to protect the people of Darfur."
Nigeria's Mufti said that the initiative whose principles are inspired from the spirit of the Islamic fraternity and jurisprudence agreed to by each of the two rebels movements of al-Adel Wal Musawat( Justice and equity) and the Sudan's Liberation Front and the Sudanese government and that negotiations over it will be in parallel with Abuja negotiations.
In a seminar organized by the Afro-Asian writers in Cairo, Sheikh Ibrahim Saleh al-Sharif explained on Sunday that the African Union leaders were notified about this initiative and its special role, noting that Darfur's rebels reject Arab and Islamic intervention of fears of the implications of this intervention " which is biased to the Sudanese government."
