Attempts to revive inter-Sudanese negotiations
Sudan, Politics, 11/8/2004

Mediators of the African Union are seeking to bring back the rebels of Darfur and the representatives of the Sudanese government to the stumbled negotiation table.

Chad's mediator, the assistant in the negotiations Ahmad Alami said "we have met separately with the delegations of the rebels and the representatives of the government to listen to their views on issues pertinent to security and the principal political declaration." He added that the mediators are waiting for the position of the government of Khartoum over the security protocol which did not arrive officially on which depends the wrapping up of the session of work and the will of partners to proceed, noting that a new agenda has been prepared.

For his part, the chairman of the government delegation Majzoub Khaleifa said that concerning security issues "we have accepted the agreement which was handed over on October 28. But we did not approve the last chapter." The only difference between the two texts lies in that the second chapter remarks to no-fly zone over Darfur for hostile planes. A matter which is categorically rejected by Khartoum.
