Israel admits that one Hizbullah reconnaissance plane flew over North Israel
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 11/8/2004
The Israeli army admitted that a pilot-less plane for the Lebanese Hizbullah party launched by Hizbullah flew over north Israel.
A statement by the Israeli army said that the plane is Iranian-made and it violated Israel's airspaces in the western Galilee sector and then returned back and crashed in south Lebanon.
Earlier, Hizbullah disclosed the it had a remarkable achievement for the first time in its confrontation of the Israeli violations of Lebanon's sovereignty by flying a plane it called "Mirsad 1" over several Israeli settlements and towns until the coastal town of Naharia in north Israel and then it returned back to its base safely after it took pictures of these positions.
A statement by the Hizbullah party said that "Mirsad 1" will make more sorties at any time if the Israeli violations of the Lebanese airspace continue.
News were contradictory on the fate of the plane. Witnesses near al-Naqoura Lebanese border town on the Mediterranean coast said that the plane fell in the sea and was found by fishermen who handed it to Hizbullah, while others said they saw a reconnaissance plane landing on the Lebanese territories in Jabal Hamoul tell, 4 Km from the border with Israel to the north of al-Naqoura town.
The UN has repeatedly criticized the repeated Israeli violations of the Lebanese airspace, while the Israeli forces still occupy the Lebanese Shebaa farms after its withdrawal from South Lebanon on May 2004.
