Palestinian official: Arafat suffers liver failure, Palestinian meetings to maintain stability
Palestine, Politics, 11/8/2004

One Palestinian source disclosed that the Palestinian President Yasser Arafat suffers liver failure and that his health condition is not improving.

The official who asked to be anonymous said that the Palestinian leadership is currently seeking to transport Arafat from Paris to Cairo to complete the medical treatment, stressing that no final decision has been taken to this effect.

Meantime, the Israeli defense minister Shaoul Mofaz said that Israel has completed arrangements of burying Yasser Arafat in Gaza when he dies. Mofaz said that Israel is waiting Arafat's death announcement officially and final arrangements will be carried out as soon as a request is received from the Palestinian Authority.

Mofaz said that the Israeli authorities are ready to facilitate the passage of those who want to take part in the funeral of Yasser Arafat if he dies, noting that the Israeli army will reduce to the minimum the security control on the Arab leaders and others who will enter Gaza from Egypt during the funeral.

For his part, the Israeli foreign minister Silvan Shalom expressed his hope for the appearance of a moderate Palestinian leadership if Arafat dies. Shalom said in statements he made in China that Israel is ready for what might happen in the coming days.

In Klamar district in Paris where Arafat is laid in the Military hospital of Percy, the health department announced that the health condition of the Palestinian leader has not witnessed any change since the announcement of the recent health report.

In Ramullah, the Palestinian national security council chaired by the prime minister Ahmad Qurei' held a meeting at the headquarters of the district in a series of meetings held by the Authority's establishments in an attempt to preserve its stability.

Today, former Palestinian minister of the Interior col. Muhammad Dahlan is expected to arrive in Ramullah coming from Paris to brief the Palestinian officials on the reality of Arafat's condition.
