21 policemen killed in al-Anbar, four injured in Falluja

Iraqi medical sources said that four Iraqis were injured in an artillery bombardment that targeted the east and south east quarters of Falluja city yesterday at dawn.
One American military spokesman said that the artillery bombarded yesterday morning the city in support of American units which were exposed to fire in the suburbs. The city was exposed to American air and artillery bombardment. The American planes bombarded seven times during night time targets said to shelter gunmen rejecting the foreign presence.
Immediately after the attack, large explosions were heard in the surrounding of the green zone in the downtown of Baghdad, and no reason was given to that or whether it resulted in casualties or not. One attack by a booby trapped car targeted one American plane on the main road leading to Baghdad airport yesterday. One American military car was damaged during the attack.
In another development, three officials in the municipal council of Deyali governorate were killed at the hands of unidentified persons. A spokesman for Baqouba police, the headquarters of Deyali governorate to the north east of Baghdad, said that Jasem Abd, deputy chairman or the governing council of Deyali, Shehab Mekki member of the governing council in Deyali and Dureid Fadel, deputy chairman of the municipal council of Baqouba were killed in al-Lteifeh area to the south of Baghdad while heading for Karbala.
Meantime, one official in the Iraqi intelligence during the toppled Iraqi regime Col. Abdul Sattar al-Luheibi was killed. Baqouba police said that gunmen intercepted al-Luheibi's car who was accompanied by his son and nephew and forced them to get out of the car and beat them before they opened fire on the victim and burned his car.
These attacks came after one armed group killed 21 policemen yesterday morning in attacks against police centers in the cities of al-Haqlanieh, al-Barawenah and Haditha which affiliate to al-Anbar governorate to the west of Iraq.
A spokesman for the Iraqi police said that some 200 gunmen broke into Haditha police center and dismantled the weapons of its members and killed them. The spokesman added that the attackers took with them the police weapons and 15 cars before they set fire to the place.
The attacks came after less than 24 hours from the explosions that took place at the police centers in Sameraa and left 22 persons killed and scores injured. The explosions in which four booby trapped cars were used, targeted police centers in the city and one American military procession.
Meantime, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi group said in a statement issued on the Internet that one attack targeted an American military vehicle in al-Ramadi city. The statement which dates Friday gave no mention to the casualties of the operation, but indicated confrontations took place in the city.
