Over 100 clandestine immigrants arrested in 4 days
Morocco, Local, 11/5/2004
Moroccan authorities arrested 105 clandestine immigrants between October 30 and November 2, the interior ministry said Wednesday.
The number includes 81 sub-Saharans, 12 Moroccans, including 5 human traffickers, 4 from India, 2 from Pakistan, 4 from Syria and 2 from Algeria, the same source said.
These persons were arrested in Tetouan (north), Nador, Al Hoceima and Figuig (northeast), Tan-Tan, Agadir, Laayoune, Assa Zag and Tata (south) and Casablanca (west).
Illegal immigrants come to Morocco seeking to cross to Spain or other European countries.
Morocco created last year two new bodies to fight illegal immigration and crack down on human trafficking networks, namely the Directorate of Migration and Border Surveillance and the Migration Observatory.
