Morocco, Egypt consider stance coordination in Euro-Mediterranean cooperation
Egypt-Morocco, Politics, 11/2/2004

Egyptian president, Hosni Mubarak, considered in Cairo on Sunday, with Moroccan foreign minister, Mohamed Benaissa, means to coordinate political, economic and security stance in the framework of European-Mediterranean cooperation.

Spokesman of the Egyptian presidency, Majid Abdelfattah, said the meeting also discussed the latest developments in the Middle East and other issues like the conference on Iraq (to be held in Egypt) and the forum of the future (scheduled in Morocco), as well as Moroccan-Egyptian relations.

Benaissa informed the Egyptian president on the latest developments of the Sahara issue and the efforts exerted by King Mohammed VI to reach a political and negotiated solution to the conflict opposing Morocco to the Algeria-backed Polisario movement that claims the separation of the Moroccan southern provinces.

The Moroccan foreign minister, on the same day, held talks with Arab League Secretary General, Amr Moussa, on means to reinforce Arab action, the upcoming meeting of Arab foreign ministers and their Latin American counterparts to be held next March in the Moroccan Southern city of Marrakech.

Benaissa told the press at the end of the meeting the Moroccan vision on the settlement of the Sahara issue is in line with UN Security Council decision to resolve the conflict through political means.

The Moroccan diplomat also met Saturday Egyptian peer, Ahmed Abou El Gheit, with whom he discussed bilateral relations and means to energize the various agreements signed by the two states, as well as other Arab and international issues.
