Somalia, Politics, 11/1/2004
More than 100 persons were killed on Saturday in a fighting between Puntland and the other Somalian area that stands rival to it, known as the Republic of Somaliland, which accuses the leader of Puntland, who became the new President of Somalia, of launching a war against it.
The political leader of Puntland, Abdullah Youssef who was elected as a President for Somalia on October 10th, had vowed to work peacefully with the separated Republic of Somaliland.
However, Youssef's elections raised fears of Republic of Somaliland which has great hatred for that man who is ever considered the greatest enemy in Puntland which enjoys autonomy.
A spokesman for the President of the Republic of Somaliland said "state of alert for our forces is underway and will continue until Abdullah Youssef forces leave our lands," adding that fighting stopped because of the heavy rainfall. A spokesman for the defense ministry in the Republic of Somaliland said that the result of the clashes which erupted on Friday tolled killing 109 persons.
