Chairman of the secular council in Bahrain says organization is legitimate

One of the senior Shiite scholar in Bahrain, Sheikh Issa Qasem, said that the "Secular Islamic Council which was established by several Shiite clergy men is in compliance with the constitution," noting that "it is not a political establishment and its principles are religious rather than political."
The chairman of the council which is considered by the government of Bahrain as non-constitutional, Sheikh Qasem, said in statements he published on the Internet that the "constitution embraces such a council and praises it over its logical Islamic inclination." He added that the "the constitution does not contradict itself." He indicated that the constitution states to have "an Islamic state" stressing that the Muslim state is not separated from the principles of Islam."
On the other hand, the security forces in Bahrain detained some 30 persons while demonstrating in Manama and its suburbs on Thursday evening, demanding the release of the human right activists Abdul Hadi al-Khawaja, according to organizers of the demonstrations on Friday.
