International guarantees for Arafat's return back to Ramullah

Palestinian officials stressed on Thursday they had received international guarantees from the European Union and the USA for the return back of Arafat to his headquarters in Ramullah after the end of his medical treatment.

Despite that, the Israeli government refused to confirm it had given guarantee to this effect, rather what was given by Ranaan Ghesein, the advisor of the Israeli president to that Israel will not prevent Arafat from coming back to Ramullah if he leaves it for medical treatment.

However, the Israeli foreign minister Silvan Shalom raised later new doubts on guarantees for Arafat's return following the treatment by saying "a decision will be made when we get to that stage." The Israeli government presidency said yesterday that Sharon made consultations with the defense minister and security officials over the developments of security conditions in the Palestinian territories on the light of Arafat's deteriorated health conditions.
