Karami to announce on Tuesday the formation of the new Lebanese government
Lebanon, Politics, 10/26/2004

The designated Lebanese prime minister Omar Karami announced names of his new government on Tuesday after he was able of solve the differences which postponed the ministerial formation.

In statements to the press on Monday evening, Karami said that all differences have been solved. Official political sources in Beirut said that the dispute between the designated Lebanese prime minister and President Lahoud was about the bag of the ministry of the interior for which Suleiman Franjieh, known for his inclination to Syria, is nominated for.

Franjieh -- who was occupying the post of the ministry of health -- threatened to join the opposition trend if he does not get a major ministerial post.

Analysts consider that Karami's government will be more inclined to Syria than the government of the resigned prime minister Rafic Hariri.

This, however, coincides with the escalation of the American pressures on Syria and Lebanon to the extent that a UN Security Council issued a resolution condemning what is it considers a foreign intervention in the Lebanese affairs and simultaneously demands the withdrawal of what it called foreign forces, in remarks to the Syrian forces in Lebanon.

Karami said that his main task will be resisting foreign pressures put on Syria and Lebanon and draw a new law for the parliamentary elections which will be held in the spring of 2005. N.
