Jordan denies convening a meeting with Israel to amend the borders
Jordan-Israel, Politics, 10/25/2004

Jordan has denied news that it had delegated a delegation to meet with Israel to discuss amending the borders at the Jordan valley with the aim of completing the first joint academic project on a land considered to be neutral.

The spokeswoman for the Jordanian government Asmaa Khuder said that these news are groundless, saying that the Israeli daily Haaretz have been establishing since two months untrue reports about Jordan.

However, Israeli reports indicated that the meeting of the Israeli - Jordanian committee will discuss the project's security and legal aspects, for which Jordan gave 3,000 square meters of its lands, while Israeli gave the same area from the Jordanian lands it had got according to Wadi Araba agreement signed between the two sides in 1994.

The project which is financed by Jordanian, Israeli and American investors carries the name of "Bridging the gap." Its corner stone was laid in march, while actual work constructions will start in 2005.

The project meets an opposition from the largest opposition parties. The secretary general of the Jordanian Islamic action party Sheikh Hamza Mansour said that this rejection complies with the stand of the party which originally opposes Wadi Araba agreement for peace between Jordan and Israel and also to any attempts for normalization with Israel.
