al-Khaleij: Iraqi interim president to visit Kuwait

Kuwaiti sources told the Kuwaiti al-Khaleij paper that the Iraqi Interim President Ghazi Elyawer will pay a visit which is the first of its kind by an Iraqi President for Kuwait by the end of this month, and will be accompanied by the minister of defense Hazem al-Shaalan in a framework of a tour covering several Arab Gulf states.

The paper said that Elyawer will exclude Qatar from his visit because of Baghdad's opposition on the way in which al-Jazeera TV covers news on the conditions in Iraq, as the Iraqi officials consider that such coverage increases the volume of security tension and provide media supports for the Iraqi resistance groups.

The sources explained that the talks Elyawer will hold with the Kuwaiti officials will deal with means of supporting and developing relations between the two states and the efforts carried out by Kuwait to rebuild Iraq.

The sources indicated that conditions of the Iraqis held in the Kuwaiti jails will be discussed. Many of those Iraqis are expected to be released by Kuwait by the fall of Eid al-Fiter. The talks will be also deal with means of supporting security and intelligence cooperation to know how some 30 Kuwaitis entered Iraq and their imposition inside what is called the Sunni triangle in order to fight the American forces.
