Hamas retaliates by mortars to the assassination of al-Gul
Palestine-Israel, Military, 10/23/2004

One of the key cadres of Ezz Eddine al-Qassam group, the military wing of the Hamas movement, was killed and another one was strongly injured in a mortar explosion. A medical source said that the body of Eyad al-Serr ( 28 year old) arrived in al-Nasser hospital.

A source in Hamas said that one Israeli tank fired a shell at the two activists of the movement. However, witnesses said that the shelling was fired while he was firing at a Jewish settlement to the west of Khan Younis camp to the south of Gaza.

The Islamic resistance movement ( Hamas) fired six mortars at Nafe Dekalim Israeli settlement, in the first reaction of the movement to the assassination of two of its prominent military leaders.

In a statement, al-Qassam groups described the operation as the beginning of direct and immediate answer to the assassination of its two leaders Adnan al-Gul and Imad Abbas were killed on Thursday in an Israeli raid in Gaza.

In another statement, the groups claimed responsibility for the operation of firing Battar missile from Beit Hanoun city to the Israeli Erez settlement. The two statements threatened Israel of what they described as stronger attacks. The Israeli forces assassinated Adnan al-Gul ( 47 year old) who is considered the engineer of the missile industry in Hamas movement and his friend Imad Abbas after one reconnaissance plane fired one missile at his car which also resulted in injuring 6 passersby.

The leading figure in Hamas movement Muhammad Nazzal said that the methods of the Israeli assassinations and methods of targeting the leaders create passive reactions and confirms the rightful option of the resistance.

Hours after the assassination of al-Gul, the occupation forces fired three missiles at the house of one of the leaders of the people's resistance committees in Gaza. the Israeli raids came a short time after the killing of one Israeli soldier in Rafah area to the south of Gaza in an explosion Hamas movement claimed responsible for.

To the east of al-Shuja'eyah quarters in Gaza, two Palestinian activists were killed by the Israeli bullets while trying to implement a Fedayeen operation against one Israeli military operation near Nahal Aouz crossing.
