Iraq's Muslim Scholars Commission member detained
Iraq, Politics, 10/23/2004
The official spokesman for the Muslim Scholars Commission, Sheikh Muhammad Bashar al-Feidi, deplored the detention of member of the Commission's Shoura council Sheikh Abdul Sattar Abdul Jabber in Baghdad with other three including two of his children.
Al-Feidi considered these detentions as a declaration of war against the commission which opposes the way the coming elections in Iraq are being made.
This comes days after the detention of the American forces of the chairman of the commission in Kubeisah city after their return back from the emergency conference of the Sunni scholars in Iraq which was dedicated to discuss the situation in Falluja.
For its part, the Islamic party in Iraq circulated a brief statement in the Sunni mosques that called on the "Muslims to take part in the elections to nominate and elect the one you trust of people .. who want the good for the homeland." In Karbala, the representative of the Shiite reference Ayatullah Ali al-Seistani stressed the need of taking part intensively in the Iraqi elections because abstaining that is considered a treason for the homeland.
