US welcomes British forces redeployment in Iraq
Iraq-USA, Politics, 10/22/2004
The USA has announced its welcome over Britain's consent on its decision to transfer its forces from southern Iraq to areas of tension near Baghdad.
The spokesman for the US Department Of State Richard Boucher said that Britain stressed its commitment to support the efforts of the Iraqis to restore back stability to their country.
The British defense secretary announced before the House of Commons following a meeting for the government headed by Tony Blair that his government will re-deploy some 850 military men from Basra to areas controlled by the Americans near the capital Baghdad he did not identify, noting that the mission of these forces will last for weeks rather than months.
The transferred forces include a fighting group including the first contingent of "Black watch" group and backing units to replace one American unit that can be transferred to deal with fighters in areas of unrest like Falluja.
