Sudan, Politics, 10/21/2004
The African union said that it will start during the two next weeks deployment of additional forces exceeding 3,000 troops in Darfur district to the west of Sudan, amid news on approaching resumption of negotiations between al-Khartoum and the district's rebellions.
The chairman of the Union's peace and security council Saeed Jint said that these forces which toll 3320 troopers are necessary to restore back security and offering millions of displaced civilians the confidence to return back home.
Jint explained in a press conference in Ethiopia that the Union's committee for ceasing fire completed all necessary preliminary steps to deploy more officials so as to reach the required number of the forces which is composed of military men, observers, policemen and services officials.
The African official considered that the situation in the district is still grave. he warned that continued violations of cease fire, the attacks and other acts of violence against the civilians undermine the current efforts to restore back peace and stability in the region.
