UNSC Statement and speaker of the Lebanese parliament
Lebanon-UN, Politics, 10/21/2004

Lebanese Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri denounced the UN Security Council statement on Lebanon.

"What happened was an intervention in the internal affairs of a sovereign country on one side, and in the Lebanese-Syrian relations on the other," Speaker Berri said in a statement on Wednesday.

Anyway, he saw there was retreat in the campaign targeting Syria and Lebanon, referring to international stances that prevented the statement from being strong -- as some countries expected.

Lebanese Deputy Premier Issam Fares, for his part, said his country has reservations over the UNSC intervention in the Lebanese internal affairs.

Also Lebanese Foreign Minister Jean Obeid echoed same opinions, saying that action should be adopted to make international decisions more comprehensive and fair.

He added "we don't accept anyone to decide for us regarding dealing with issues related to our interests and relations with Syria."
