Moussa calls on Moratinos to discuss the alliance of civilizations with him

The secretary general of the Arab league Amre Mousa has called on the Spanish foreign minister Miguel Moratinos to visit the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo in order to discuss Madrid's thinking towards establishing "a dialogue for alliance of civilizations" to fight terrorism.

Moratinos announced yesterday before the senate council in Madrid that he is ready to fulfill the invitation of the Arab League, according to a spokesman for his own behalf but has not define a date for that.

He said that some of the European countries and 22 countries in the Arab states are hosting Spanish diplomatic missions gave a "positive" answer and that the Iranian President Muhammad Khatami expressed his readiness to take part in the initiative, actively.

Spain, however, expressed its readiness to reach "a strategic alliance" with the Arab world and the Muslim Arab world to fight what it called terrorism. This will be by depriving it from pretexts that legitimizing it, according to what Moratinos had explained in September before foreign ambassadors to Spain, in Madrid.

He stressed before the senate house that the initiative proposed by the prime minister Jose Thapateiro at the UN in September to establish an alliance civilizations between the Western world and the Islamic Arab world, received "great welcome " by the UN secretary general Kofi Annan.
