Syrian, Turks-exchange visits on Ramadan
Syria-Turkey, Local, 10/20/2004

Mayor of the Turkish city of Cilan Binar of the southern state of Urfa, Moussa Arslan, said that up to 3,000 Syrians applied for crossing the borders into Turkey during the forthcoming Eid al-Fitr ( Lesser Bairam ) to congratulate their relatives on this religious festival.

Arslan was quoted by the Turkish Cihan News Agency as saying that Urfa state has taken all necessary steps to receive the Syrian visitors and make the initiative a success.

The Turkish official pointed out that his city had already set up a special center to register the visitors and facilitate their crossing of the borders and stay with their relatives for 48 hours.

Arslan added that up to 3,200 Turks had crossed the border into Syria last year's Eid al-Fitr and stayed with their relatives also for 48 hours.
