Ebla history highlighted by minister of culture

Syria's Minister of Culture Mahmoud al-Sayyed stressed that heritage is the main pillar of culture which is not a historical stage but a collection of history and the moral and material memory of the nation.
He called for "saving our heritage which constitutes our identity, culture and civilization in the face of current globalization process."
In a press conference held Monday, on the occasion of opening of the second part of the Archeological Park of Tel Mardikh -Ebla due to open to the public on Wednesday, al-Sayyed said " Syria is ships and crossroads of civilizations." The Minister reviewed the findings of the Italian archeological team headed by Scholar of the Oriental Ruins at Rome One University Paolo Mattie.
He talked about the site and the unearthed parts, pointing out that it consists of two cities, the Lower City dating back to the second half of the third millennia B.C and it consists mainly of a big palace. The second on a higher level and dating back to the first half of the second millennia B.C and witnessed an architecture renaissance through the establishment of a new city with large fences and gates.
He pointed out to Ebla's trade and culture relations with the neighboring kingdoms, Egypt and east of Asia.
He stressed the necessity of developing the site and encouraging tourism in it.
The first part of the Archeological Park of Ebla was opened in 26 of October 2002.
