AIHR Chief praises Moroccanexperience in human rights violation Settlement

Director of the Arab Institute of Human Rights (AIHR), Abdelbasset Ben Hassan, praised the Moroccan efforts to close the dossier of human rights violations through the creation of the Equity and Reconciliation Instance (IER).

Ben Hassan said the success of the IER experience is a model which ought to be followed by the whole set of Arab and Islamic countries, adding the experience is the result of a daring political decision and a long struggle to strengthen human rights in Morocco.

At a meeting, here on Thursday, with IER members aiming at enhancing cooperation between the two institutions, AIHR director said equity issue is delicate whether in political decision making or in its implementation stage. AIHR Chief welcome the cooperation existing between Morocco and this Arab institution, recalling the institute works for the spreading of the integration of human rights issue in various programmes, including in school syllabi. For his part, IER member, M'barek Bouderka said observers and relevant international organisations pin hope on the Moroccan experience that can be a model for Arab and Islamic countries.

He reviewed the evolution and the situation of human rights in Morocco since the nineties resulting in the creation of the IER that received 20.000 files on human rights violations. IER members travelled to several regions to meet local associations and victims of violations and work out a compensation programme, he went on to say.
