Iraq restores back its vote at the UN
Iraq-UN, Politics, 10/14/2004

Officials at the UN said on Tuesday that Iraq has restored back its vote in the international organization after the UN General Assembly has realized that this country can not afford its due fees due to reasons beyond its control.

Although Iraq has restored its sovereignty in June this year, yet Baghdad was deprived of voting at the UN General Assembly until it pays delayed due fees estimated at $ 14.6 million.

The UN officials said that the UN General Assembly has so far ignored the rules for the sake of Iraq and other ten countries which are: The central African republic; Comoros; Georgia; Ghenia, Somalia, Liberia, Niger, Moldova, Sao Tommy, Principe and Tajakistan.

According to the UN rules, UN member states which delay paying their due fees can restore back its right to voting if the UN finds that conditions are "beyond the control of the member concerned."
