EU lifts arms embargo against Libya
Libya-European Union, Politics, 10/12/2004

The foreign ministers of the European Union agreed yesterday in a meeting in Luxembourg unanimously to lift weapons selling embargo imposed on Libya.

The ambassadors of the 25 EU member states have reached an initial agreement to this end on September 22 after pressures made by Italy. Italy is working on that in order to be able to provide Tripoli with military equipment to enhance monitoring the Libyan coasts and prevent the flow of illegal immigrants to the Italian Lambidoza island.

On the other hand, the European foreign ministers expressed their fears over the fate of the five Bulgarian nurses and one Palestinian doctor sentenced to death after they were convicted by the Libyan judiciary in the case of spreading AIDS by contaminated blood in one of Benghazi's hospitals.
