The history of attacks against Israeli tourists in Egypt
Egypt-Israel, Politics, 10/9/2004

On August 20, 1985 the administrative director at the Israeli embassy in Cairo Albert Atraki ( 30 year old) was killed by the bullet of unidentified person while he was driving his car in the downtown of Cairo and his wife was injured in addition to another employee at the embassy.

The last attack against Israelis in Sinai dates backs to October 6, 1985 when one Egyptian policeman opened fire at Israeli tourists in Raas Barakeh on the Red Sea coast chanting "God is great" and this operation resulted in killing seven ( including four children, two women and one man.)

The Egyptian authorities then played down the dimensions of the incident, stressing that it is "an individual act," carried out by a police man who lost his mind and he was sentenced to life imprisonment with Labor and later died under vague conditions, while the Egyptian authorities announced he had committed "suicide." On March 19, 1986, unidentified persons opened fire at the Israeli pavilion in the Cairo book exhibition in Cairo and this resulted in killing the wife of one employee at the Israeli embassy in Cairo and injuring other three.

On February 4, 1990 an attack targeted a bus carrying Israeli tourists while running on the way between al-Ismaleyah and Cairo and this resulted in killing nine persons and injuring other 19.

On April 18, 1996, some 18 Greek tourists were killed in an attack against Europe hotel near al-Geeza pyramids, targeting "Jewish tourists" according to the "Islamic group" which claimed responsibility for the attack.
