Morocco-Spain, Economics, 10/8/2004
The Moroccan Center for Exports Promotion (CMPE) is organizing Thursday a seminar to inform Moroccan operators on opportunities offered in the textile-clothing sector in Spain and Portugal.
The seminar is aimed at acquainting national operators with characteristics and potentials in the two markets to allow them have access to them through an appropriate marketing strategy, said Ali Alaoui, CMPE's secretary general.
The seminar is held prior to a visit of a Moroccan delegation to Spain, at the end of October, to boost two-way textile trade between the two countries.
The Spanish market offers great opportunities to Moroccan exports, especially since Spanish imports have raised up to 6.5 percent in the previous years, said Spanish expert Jorge Rodriguez Taboadela.
On her part, Portuguese expert Maria Dolores Naharro de Matins said the textile sector in her country makes sales of 7.71 billion Euro, that is 11.4 percent of the global industrial production and 17.7 percent of total exports.
In Morocco, the textile-clothing sector is among the most dynamic sectors in the industry and has a strong development potential.
It represents respectively 13.4 percent and 13 percent of total investments and industrial production, according to CMPE. The textile-clothing industry represents 34 percent of transformation industries exports.
