Sahara issue at the center of talks between Moroccan and British MPs
Morocco-UK, Politics, 10/7/2004

The Sahara issue was the focus of talks here Wednesday between a British parliamentary delegation and the speakers of the two houses of the Moroccan parliament.

President of the foreign affairs commission of the house of commons, Donald Anderson, and the president of the British-Moroccan parliamentary friendship group, Dereck Conway, were informed during separate meetings by speaker of the house of representatives, Abdelouahed Radi, and speaker of the house of councilors, Mustapha Oukacha, on the latest development of the national cause.

Oukacha told the British delegation, on a seven-day visit to Morocco since October 4th, that Morocco is willing to reach a political, negotiated and lasting solution to the Sahara conflict under the supervision of the UN.

The delegation was also briefed by members of the justice and human rights commission on the situation of Moroccan citizens sequestrated in Tindouf, South-West Algeria, by the Polisario that is seeking the separation of the Moroccan Southern provinces from the motherland.

The members of the commission called during the meeting on the European Union to work for the liberation of the Moroccans still detained in the Tindouf camps.

Economic cooperation between Morocco and Great Britain were also reviewed during the various meetings the British delegation had with Moroccan peers and other officials.
