German chancellor and the International Book Fair
Regional-Germany, Politics, 10/7/2004

German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder underlined that stability in the Middle East can't be achieved without finding a solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict through dialogue and recognition of the Palestinian people's right to establish their independent state.

During opening the 56th International Book Fair in Frankfort under the motto "The Arab World as an honor guest," Schroeder underlined that hosting the Arab states at the Fair is an opportunity to get acquainted with Arab culture and good image of the Arab states as well as to correct the distorted image of those countries and cultures in the west.

He asserted his country's interest in rebuilding Iraq and securing its unity, safety and sovereignty to restore its natural position among other states.

He also stressed necessity of fighting terrorism, pointing out that terrorism is a phenomena that has no link with religions.

For his part, Secretary General of the Arab League, Amr Moussa, said that this meeting aims at showing the eastern religions, culture and civilization.

17 Arab states are participating in the activities of the Fair with the participation of more than 200 writers, poets, artists and intellectuals on top of whom the Syrian Poet Adonis and the Algerian Writer Asia Jbara.
