Police forces and members of the intelligence in Mauritania on Tuesday evening launched a series of breaking-in into houses in various quarters of Nouakchott that resulted in detention of several military men and civilians suspected of having a link between them and what it called the "persons who carried out the coupe."
So far number of the detainees is 22 persons including one woman, while other 8 persons are being searched for believed to have taken part in training operations on gangs war in Burkina Faso, according to the official story.
News rumored in Nouakchott that the life of Maj. Gen. Abdul Rahman Weld Madanai was in danger after he was admitted to hospital yesterday after he was tortured at the hands of his investigators since his detention one week ago.
Reactions continued denouncing the campaign of detentions and torturing of detainees launched by several human rights organizations including the Mauritania Monitor For Human Rights which organized a demonstration before the Mauritanian embassy in Paris, in collaboration with other organizations. The demonstration ended up by handing over a message of protest to the embassy.
For its part, al-Sawab ( the rightful) party urged the Mauritanian government to put an end to the military coupes by expanding political participation in the country.
