Othman Hashim Abdel Raziq: Egypt, Sudan agree on setting up free zone
Egypt-Sudan, Economics, 9/30/2004
"The Egyptian and Sudanese governments have agreed on setting up a free zone on their joint borders to exchange various commodities between the two countries.
An Egyptian-Sudanese-Arab company would be established to finance the project through the participation of businessmen from the two countries," Consul General of the Sudanese Embassy in Osman Hashim Abdel Raziq announced Wednesday.
He added that the proposed company was approved by the two governments and infrastructure of the free zone will be constructed in an area close to the road linking between the tourist city of Abu Simbel and the Sudanese city Halfa to activate bilateral trade movement.
The Sudanese consul also said that a study is currently underway to develop quarantine in slaughterhouses in Haifa Valley to meet the needs of Aswan and Upper Egyptian governorates of the Sudanese meat as part of trade integration agreements reached between the two countries in implementation of directives issued by President Hosni Mubarak and his Sudanese opposite number Omar Al-Bashir.
He added that the Egyptian and Sudanese sides are deeply interested in completing a 65-km road between Abu Simbel and Haifa to facilitate the movement between the two countries, especially after the recent decisions to allow both Egyptian and Sudanese citizens to cross borders without visas.
