Bonds of allegiance between Sahrawi tribes and Moroccan monarchy flawless, NGO
Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 9/29/2004

The historic bonds of allegiance linking Sahrawi tribes to the Moroccan monarchy are flawless, a reality that Algerians should be reminded of, said spokesman of the Association of Sahrawi Tribes in Europe, Lahcen Mahraoui.

On the memorandum Morocco presented last week to the United Nations Secretary General, Kofi Annan, on the Sahara issue, Mahraoui said "it is high time Algerians became reasonable so they contribute to the construction of the Maghreb Union, by the side of Morocco, Mauritania, Tunisia and Libya."

"The international community should also know that Algerians support the Polisario separatists diplomatically and harbor them on their territory," he said.

The memorandum Morocco presented on September 24 to the UN Secretary General stresses that Algeria, since 1973, systematically and obstinately opposed the completion of the Kingdom's territorial integrity, adding that the involvement of Algeria in the Sahara issue had multiple forms including military engagement, failure to abide by the international humanitarian law, financial and logistic support and diplomatic mobilization.
