al-Bilad: Jordanian study on Dimona reactor risks
Israel-Jordan, Politics, 9/29/2004
A Jordanian study called on the UN, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and UNESCO to put pressure on Israel to dismantle its nuclear weapons for protecting the regional security and peace.
The study, prepared by Representative of Jordanian Engineers Union at the Arab Engineers Union, Riyad Abu Hazim, and published Tuesday by Jordanian weekly al-Bilad newspaper, called on the IAEA to move quickly to prevent a nuclear disaster in the region, pointing out that the Dimona reactor constitutes a great danger for the Jordanians.
The study appealed to the human conscience to extend help to the Arab region in general and to Jordan in particular to pressure Israel into dismantling its Dimona reactor.
The study stressed that making the Middle East a zone free of weapons of mass destruction is the guarantee for the peace process in the region, referring to the Israeli rejection to join the international Non-Proliferation Treaty or to submit its nuclear facilities to international inspection.
