Mrs. Mubarak attends golden jubilee of Al Nour Wal Amal Society
Egypt, Culture, 9/28/2004

Egypt's First Lady Suzanne Mubarak, said that civil work was given an unprecedented momentum over the past years, thanks to the full support of the state.

In a ceremony marking the golden jubilee of Al Nour Wal Amal Society late Sunday, the First Lady asserted that the state looks upon civil work as the one line in the triangle of development, with the government and the private sector giving the two others.

She praised the valuable contribution of the society over five decades since it was founded by a constellation of patriotic men and women to serve their society.

Mrs. Mubarak said that the pioneering Al Nour Wal Amal Society has proved successful, thanks to the tireless efforts of its members in serving people with special needs in general and blind people in particular.

She noted that the society's work expanded over the past years to become a five-department rehabilitation center training and grooming blind people.

Mrs. Mubarak, highlighted, in this respect, the Light and Hope orchestra as a unique example of man's ability to overcome his/her disability and exceed in such an art as music.

She also praised the role of the federation of civil societies as an umbrella for all civil work activities in the country.

The federation is assisted in carrying out its mission by 27 provincial unions as well as 12 specialized unions such as the recently formed anti-drug union.

Mrs. Mubarak said that the government has decided to launch a national discourse on promoting the civil service system to become an effective instrument in employing the energies of Egyptian youths.

She encouraged the private and the civil sectors to form more donor establishments to contribute to overcoming the problem of funding that stymie the work of civil societies.
