Rajoub arrives in Cairo for talks with Egyptian officials
Egypt-Palestine, Politics, 9/25/2004
Palestinian Presidential Advisor Jibril Al-Rajoub arrived yesterday from Ramallah via Amman for talks with a number of Egyptian officials on Palestinian developments.
Rajoub, in press statements upon arrival, said his visit comes as part of continued contacts between Egyptian and Palestinian officials in a bid to bring the Palestinian Cause back to the fore on the world stage.
He hailed Egypt's role in support of the Palestinian Cause since 1948, and said at present Egypt was exerting strenuous efforts to serve the Palestinians, especially after an Israeli pullout of Gaza.
Egypt believes that an independent Palestinian identity will serve regional stability, he said.
Egypt's current efforts crown its principled stance towards the Palestinian Question, Rajoub said.
The Palestinian issue must be solved in accordance with international legitimacy, he said.
Speaking of recent threats levelled by Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon against Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, Rajoub labelled the threats as a fixation, but warned that harming Arafat in any way would trigger dire consequences.
