The appeal court of Rabat delivered Friday 2 to 4 year jail sentenced against seven individuals, in two cases, under the anti-terrorism law.
In the first case, concerning the group dubbed the "Tangiers group," sued for unauthorized public meetings and activities within a non-authorized organization, one was sentenced to 4 years in jail and two others to a two-year term each. A fourth man was acquitted.
In the second case, the tribunal handed down 2-year sentenced against two individuals from Benslimane (southeast of Rabat) for incitement to terrorism acts and terrorism advocacy in public speeches.
One individual was sentenced to 2 years in jail for unauthorized public meetings and activities within a non-recognized association, and another to a 5,000 DH (US$ 550) fine. Both are from Casablanca.
Morocco enacted the anti-terrorism law on the wake of the May 16 terrorist attacks that rocked Casablanca, killing over 45 and injuring over a hundred.
