Nazif attends signing Sudanese import deal
Egypt-Sudan, Politics, 9/24/2004

Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif attended the signing of a deal on purchasing 30,000 tones of frozen and boneless Sudanese meat on Wednesday.

As per the deal, the first batch of 3,000 tones will reach the country on the first day of the Holy fasting month of Ramadan (almost three weeks from now).

One kilogram of Sudanese meat will be sold at L.E. 15.5. Five EgyptAir planes will transport the meat every week from Khartoum carrying 40 tones each with a total of 200 tones per week.

The deal was signed by Minister of International Cooperation Fayza Abul-Naga and Sudanese Minister of Foreign Trade Abdel Hamid Moussa.

Minister of Supply Hassan Khedr told reporters that the five-year deal is between the Egyptian Medtrade and Sudanese Sparco companies, adding that it is open for both the public and private sectors to import meat, and in the future, other commodities such as cereals, from Sudan.

Importing meat from Sudan will be in return for other commodities needed by the Sudanese side such as cement and other construction materials.

The Sudanese Minister said the deal falls within the framework of close cooperation and brotherly relations between Egypt and Sudan.

He asserted his country's appreciation for Egypt's supportive stances regarding the Sudan crisis.

A delegation of Egyptian veterinarians will head for Khartoum on Sunday to ensure the necessary health measures and follow up the implementation of the deal.
