NDP paper stresses women's rights
Egypt, Politics, 9/22/2004
The National Democratic Party (NDP) has floated a paper on ways to empower women and maintain their rights in Egypt.
"Society progress is based on widening equal contribution by men and women alike," the paper read, stressing that women political contribution was part and parcel of the comprehensive political reform sought by the NDP and the government.
The paper on women highlights the need for empowering women at economic social and political levels and widening the scope of their contribution and eradicating any discrimination forms against them.
The paper floats several policies to reactivate the women role in the fields of political life, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and small-scale business projects.
The paper also seeks adoption of a standardized personal status law.
The party will cooperate with the National Council for Women (NCW) and the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood to put into effect an initiative to educate girls and promote anti-child labor efforts.
