Washington might lift trade embargo form Libya today
Libya-USA, Politics, 9/20/2004
US officials expected that the US President George W. Bush will officially abrogate today the American trade embargo on Libya, as a reward to Tripoli over abiding by its promises to give up mass destruction weapons.
American officials said that the talks which were held in London last Friday between the US under secretary of state for the Middle East affairs William Burns and Libyan officials, ran smoothly and that Tripoli met the American conditions to start a continuous program to investigate that it had removed all mass destruction weapons and also agreed to remove "Skud B" type missiles.
American officials explained that it is expected that Bush will abrogate today the basic executive order which was issued in January 1986 which imposed a comprehensive trade embargo on Libya over terrorism charges and an executive order issued in 1992 imposing restrictions on the Libyan aviation relations with the USA.
