Fahmi: Cabinet will discuss proposal on Egypt's joining OPEC membership
Egypt-Regional, Economics, 9/18/2004

Egypt's Minister Sameh Fahmy said the Cabinet will soon discuss a proposal on Egypt's joining OPEC membership, asserting that Egypt welcomes the cartel's invitation in this regard.

He added that invitation is considered an appreciation for Egypt's key role in the region and its developed oil and gas exploration and industry.

On the other hand, Fahmy met with President of OPEC Purnomo Yusgiantoro who doubles as Indonesia's Oil Minister for talks on the preparations for the coming OPEC meeting due to be held in Cairo next December.
