Sanaa accuses Saudi sides of supporting al-Houthi
Yemen-Saudi Arabia, Politics, 9/17/2004

News reports quoted sources close to the Yemeni government as saying yesterday that Shiite Saudis were among the sides which supported the rebellion of the Zaidi clergy Hussein Bader Eddine al-Houthi in Sadaah governorate to the north west of the country.

The Yemeni sources said that messages were exchanged between the Yemeni and Saudi governments over the existence of support by certain Saudi Shiite traders and businessmen to al-Houthi during and before the rebellion.

The Yemeni authorities announced that the investigations carried out by the security forces and documents found in the case disclosed the involvement of regional and local sides in the incidents.

The Yemeni ( September 26) weekly which is close to the presidency and mouthpiece of the armed forces quoted a well-informed source in the ministry as saying that so far many facts were disclosed on the "support the rebels received from regional sides," accusing these sides as aiming to create a sort of instability and spreading chaos and destruction in the Yemeni society.

The ruling General People Congress Party accused the Socialist Party and other opposition parties of supporting al-Houthi. The chairman of the political department in the conference Younis Hazaa said that "it is better for the Socialist Party not to get itself involved in a lost battle in maintaining solidarity with al-Houthi through what is called observing a sit in in the party's headquarters."

Meantime, local sources in Sadaah province said that fighting took place yesterday between the government forces and the followers of the second man in al-Houthi organization "al-Shabab al-Mou'min" ( the believing youths), Abdullah al-Ruzami, noting that the latter is still persisting to fight.
